If you are a true TV fan, you must have pondered over the history of Television atleast once in your whole life time. Millennials have seen the advanced versions of the primitive and latest TV models so far. However, much of the television history can only be tracked by charting out a timeline of inventions and launches. The American households have always been adorned by new and innovative TV sets at different stages in the history.

Let’s take a closer look at the world Television history

Mechanical Television

Before the electric televisions were created, the viewers got to enjoy mechanical televisions. These TVs appeared in the world history for as early as the 1800s. The images were mechanically scanned from a transmitter and sent to a receptor screen. As it is evident from the process, mechanical televisions were way more elementary than the electric TVs.

A German inventor Paul Gottlieb Nipkow invented the first mechanical television which actually sent images through metal wires on a rotating disc. The man liked to call it as an electric telescope rather than a television and it had 18 lines of resolution.

In the early 1920s, two inventors John Logie Baird and Charles Francis Jenkins created the first ever mechanical televisions which were basically an arrangement of holes in a spiral pattern around a rotating disk.

In 1907 Russian Boris Rosing and A.A. Campbell-Swinton – combined a mechanical scanning system to with cathode ray tube to make a new television system.

Electronic Television

Philo Taylor Farnsworth created the first ever electronic television at the young age of only 21 years. His system was designed to capture moving images with the help of an electron beam. The first ever image was transmitted through the TV screen in form of a line and later he transmitted a dollar sign as an answer to one of his investors.

By the end of 1934, all of the households had switched from mechanical television to electronic television systems.

The first ever commercial television sets in America were revealed to the public in September, 1928. The sales started 10 years later in 1938 and instantly broke the charts with their immense popularity.

Progression

By 1958, people had started to use compacter ITVs in London which were not as much practical as the former models.

During 1963, home pay televisions were introduced which used a slot meter on the right side of the fitting. This meter demanded a 6d coin to be inserted whenever someone wanted to watch the TV.

In 1967, Bush televisions were the most popular black and white TV sets which were able to transmit higher resolution of 625 lines and brighter images.

The first ever color televisions were launched in 1970. People used to carry battery-powered Sony Micro Televisions with them as they were quite portable.

The LEDs were launched in 2007 and ever since the world has witnessed advancements like the 60-inch 3D LCD launched in Tokyo.

Today, we are enjoying more advanced forms like the 4K and OLED TV sets in our homes.
